On April 30, Riley Green was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Letters from his alma mater, Jacksonville State University. He was also the keynote speaker for the afternoon graduation commencement.
A couple weeks prior at Stagecoach, during his Amazon Music livestream interview, Riley shared the exciting news to Kelly Sutton and Amber Anderson. He joked that he’s “getting a stethoscope and everything…might even walk out in a white lab coat.” A hilarious remark by Riley, since an honorary doctorate is not an M.D.
The funny line sent social media into a frenzy. With many joining in on the joke, fans left their own silly comments about wanting to schedule an appointment with the newly-minted Dr. Green.
After Riley officially received his honorary doctorate, he took to social media to celebrate, adding in his caption “#drgreen #ihaveastethoscope.” Congratulations Dr. Green, your humor never fails to make us laugh!
Riley recently began his Cowboy As It Gets Tour alongside Justin Moore, and will perform at the ACM Awards on May 17, where he is nominated for four awards: Album of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, Artist-Songwriter of the Year, and Music Event of the Year. He will also be performing at ACM Lifting Lives Country on the Green: Riley Green & Friends. This ACM week event on May 15 will give all proceeds to benefit ACM Lifting Lives, the philanthropic partner of the Academy of Country Music, dedicated to improving lives through the power of music.
